Adoption of NAFS
For those who are starting new construction or renovation projects, you are probably aware that there are new performance requirements for fenestration products. As a builder it is important that you are aware of the compliance deadline, and whether or not the products to be used meet the new standard. As quoted from a news bulletin released by the Building and Safety Standards Branch,
Any window, door and skylight installed on or after December 20, 2013 must conform to the new NAFS Standard as well as A440S1-09 Canadian Supplement to AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440, NAFS – North American Fenestration standard/Specification for Windows, Doors, and Skylights. (This effective date is not associated with the date of the building permit as are some revisions to the BC Building Code.)
The complete bulletin is available here, or from the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Natural Gas – Office of Housing and Construction Standards as bulletin B13-01-R.
